Welcome!

Let me tell you a little about myself.  My name is Kate. I came to teaching public school in a non-traditional way.  I began my teaching career about 25 years ago teaching multi-age preschool/kindergarten after receiving an associate's degree in early childhood education.  After teaching preschool for about 7 years, I took a position teaching toddlers (13 months to 3 years old) and directing a small child care program.  During my time as a toddler teacher, I went back to school to complete my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education.  I taught toddlers and directed for 8 years before deciding to return to school once again to obtain my teaching certification.  While completing my teaching certification in K-3 general and special education I took a position as a paraprofessional for a child with autism at Ossipee Central School and most recently, a position as the site director for the after school program.

Teaching is a passion for me and I can't imagine doing anything else!  I love when a student has an "AHA" moment and finally grasps a concept or skill!  I learn something new from my students daily! While teaching at my current school, I was offered an opportunity to be a part of our school's Universal Design (UDL) for Learning cohort. While I was apprehensive at first, I jumped in and fell in love with this teaching model. Giving students choice and agency within their own individual learning journey is a true passion. Fostering independence, growth mindset and problem solving is the only way for me to teach!

I love to share about my UDL journey! Join me as I start this site and share how UDL evolves in my classroom.
